The architecture of the Austrian Embassy, built according to a design of Hans Hollein, represents the starting-point for the exhibition, where three artists trace in various ways the “spirit” of the 1990s, soaked in Postmodernism, as well as Hollein’s formal language and interdisciplinary approach.

Hans Hollein’s pathbreaking manifesto Alles ist Architektur was published in the magazine BAU in 1968 and is remarkable for an unexpected collection of numerous examples from art and everyday life, all of which is architecture in the broadest sense. Alles ist Fotografie is a homage to this manifesto, its status quo and related utopias.

Gregor Eggenberger aligns himself with the “universal artist” Hans Hollein by taking on the roles of publisher and curator in addition to that of artist. Thus, as a homage to Hollein and his radical publication Alles ist Architektur (Everything is Architecture, 1968), Eggenberger has published a manifesto entitled Alles ist Fotografie (Everything is Photography, 2020).

At the same time, in the photographic series Acute Matte, the architect Hollein is examined through a focus on Eggenberger’s photographic technique, and the split image is used as a stylistic means for working out the architect’s nonconformist view formally, using shifts and interruptions to the reproduced axes.
